DBS Check
MUST be an Enhanced DBS
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
What is a DBS Check?
A DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is a background check used to help ensure that individuals working with children are safe and suitable.
At The Nanny Collective, we require all nannies and babysitters to hold an Enhanced DBS check. This is the highest level available and includes a review of criminal records and checks against the barred list for working with children.
This provides families with extra peace of mind when inviting someone into their home.
Do you currently hold an Enhanced DBS check?
• Yes – I have a valid Enhanced DBS
• No – but I’m applying now (DBS pending)
• No – and I haven’t started the process yet
Note: All babysitters placed through The Nanny Collective are required to have an Enhanced DBS. We accept DBS pending applicants if you’re actively applying and have strong childcare experience.
How to Get a DBS Check (for Nannies & Babysitters)
If you don’t already have an Enhanced DBS, here’s how to apply:
1. Apply via a registered body
You can’t apply for an Enhanced DBS on your own — but many nanny agencies, babysitting platforms, or umbrella services will do it for you.
2. Use a trusted umbrella service
We recommend CareCheck or Clear Check — both offer Enhanced DBS checks for childcare roles.
3. Cost:
Around £50–£70, depending on the provider.
4. You’ll need:
• Proof of ID (passport or driving licence)
• Proof of address (utility bill or bank statement)
• National Insurance number
5. Processing Time:
Usually 5–10 working days.
6. Update Service:
Once your DBS arrives, we recommend joining the DBS Update Service (just £13/year) — this keeps your check valid and up to date.
